Uganda Gorilla Trekking Guide

Prepare for gorilla trekking with guidance on permits, trekking conditions, fitness, porter support, forest conditions and responsible primate viewing.

Uganda gorilla tracking is a permit-controlled, ranger-led forest experience in Bwindi or Mgahinga. The route to a habituated group changes daily, so preparation matters more than predicting the length of the walk.

Permits and sectors

Secure permits before building accommodation and transfers around the assigned sector. In Bwindi, a lodge in the wrong sector can create an impractical journey.

Fitness and equipment

Expect uneven, sometimes steep and muddy ground. Grippy footwear, rain protection, water and honest fitness planning help; porter support can be valuable.

Responsible viewing

Follow ranger instructions, keep the required distance and disclose illness. The encounter is managed around gorilla welfare, not only visitor photography.

Turn guidance into a route

Ask about gorilla permits.

Tell Land Rail your dates, group and priorities. We will use the current operating details for your actual journey rather than treating general guidance as a fixed promise.
