Day-by-day itinerary

Route: Nairobi → Amboseli → Emali / Nairobi Connection → Diani Beach → Ukunda / Mombasa

1. Day 1

   Nairobi to Amboseli

   You leave Nairobi after breakfast and head for Amboseli, travelling south past Kajiado and through Maasai rangeland toward the Tanzanian border country. Arrival is followed by check-in and a first drive into open plains, dust flats and spring-fed swamps beneath the bulk of Kilimanjaro. Look for large elephant herds, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, and abundant water birds around the swamps as the light softens through the afternoon. Amboseli is known for its free-ranging elephant families, and on clear mornings Mount Kilimanjaro often rises above the plains, though cloud can hide it. The vehicle and driver-guide are private to your party throughout. Dinner is served at your Amboseli camp or lodge, where you spend the night.

2. Day 2

   Full-Day Amboseli Safari

   Explore wetlands and open plains during the cooler wildlife hours, with any mountain view dependent on weather. The drives cover open plains, dust flats and spring-fed swamps beneath the bulk of Kilimanjaro, moving between habitats as conditions change. Keep watch for large elephant herds, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, and abundant water birds around the swamps as you move between the different habitats. The swamps stay green through dry months, drawing elephants and plains game into concentrated, highly photographable groups. Amboseli is known for its free-ranging elephant families, and on clear mornings Mount Kilimanjaro often rises above the plains, though cloud can hide it. The vehicle and driver-guide are private to your party throughout. Dinner and overnight are again at your Amboseli camp or lodge.

3. Day 3

   Full-Day Amboseli Safari

   Use a second full day for a different area of the ecosystem and an unhurried final safari evening. You travel through open plains, dust flats and spring-fed swamps beneath the bulk of Kilimanjaro, working the areas your guide judges most productive on the day. Keep watch for large elephant herds, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, and abundant water birds around the swamps as you move between the different habitats. The swamps stay green through dry months, drawing elephants and plains game into concentrated, highly photographable groups. Amboseli is known for its free-ranging elephant families, and on clear mornings Mount Kilimanjaro often rises above the plains, though cloud can hide it. The evening returns you to your Amboseli accommodation for dinner and overnight.

4. Day 4

   Amboseli to Diani Beach

   Bags are loaded after breakfast and you depart Amboseli bound for Diani Beach, connecting to the coast and transferring south through Ukunda. On arrival at Diani Beach you check in, and the rest of the day is free to enjoy a long white-sand beach on Kenya's south coast, backed by palms and fringing reef. Marine and coastal wildlife can include reef fish, colobus monkeys in the coastal forest and seasonal humpback whales offshore, though sightings are never guaranteed. Diani's reef sits close inshore, which keeps the lagoon calm and makes it suitable for swimming and snorkelling. You return for dinner and an overnight stay at Diani Beach.

5. Day 5

   Diani Beach Day

   Settle into a full coast day for swimming, rest and the selected property’s confirmed facilities. The setting is a long white-sand beach on Kenya's south coast, backed by palms and fringing reef. Species commonly associated with the area include reef fish, colobus monkeys in the coastal forest and seasonal humpback whales offshore. Optional activities are included only when they are specifically quoted for your booking. Dinner and overnight are at your accommodation in Diani.

6. Day 6

   Diani Beach Day

   Choose an optional marine or cultural activity only if separately arranged, or keep the day entirely free. The setting is a long white-sand beach on Kenya's south coast, backed by palms and fringing reef. There is the possibility of seeing reef fish, colobus monkeys in the coastal forest and seasonal humpback whales offshore, though sightings are never guaranteed. Optional activities are included only when they are specifically quoted for your booking. The evening is spent at your Diani accommodation, with dinner and overnight there.

7. Day 7

   Diani Beach Day

   Enjoy a third unstructured beach day and a final Indian Ocean evening. The setting is a long white-sand beach on Kenya's south coast, backed by palms and fringing reef. There is the possibility of seeing reef fish, colobus monkeys in the coastal forest and seasonal humpback whales offshore, though sightings are never guaranteed. Optional activities are included only when they are specifically quoted for your booking. Dinner and overnight are at your accommodation in Diani.

8. Day 8

   Departure from Diani Beach

   Transfer to Ukunda or Mombasa for the booked onward service. There is a last chance to enjoy the long white-sand beach on Kenya's south coast, backed by palms and fringing reef before you leave. The pick-up time is confirmed in advance to match your flight, with luggage collected from your room. Your Land Rail arrangements end with the drop-off for your onward journey.
